Cellulite Treatment in Minneapolis and St. Paul

Shu Cosmetic Surgery MedSpa is the first MedSpa in Minnesota to offer SmoothShapes cellulite and circumferential reduction treatment. It is a non-invasive, comfortable and relaxing treatment with no down time.

This new technology called Photomology, gently stimulates metabolic processes to minimize the underlying causes of cellulite and restore tissue to a healthier state so skin is smoother and tighter. Photomology uses specific laser and light waves to address the cellulite. A 915 NM laser penetrates into the tissue and is absorbed by lipids causing the fat to liquefy. A 650 NM light modifies the fat cell membranes allowing the liquefied fat to move out of the cell. The lightweight hand held roller glides over the treated area, creating a gentle massage like sensation. The vacuum component is used to position the skin for the most effective light and laser penetration. The rollers also assist in moving the liquefied fat into the lymphatic system so the body can dispose of it.

Many people in Minnesota believe that cellulite is a fat problem, which can be addressed through diet and exercise. The cause of Cellulite is actually multifactorial, aging, hormones, genetics and dramatic weight changes can all play a role in the development of cellulite. These factors can cause connective tissue bands that pull skin down to create dimpling, and the fat cells they surround to become larger and push up into the skin, creating the "cottage cheese" effect.

Cellulite is a structural problem below the skin. Several new technologies have been invented to target the structure of cellulite. The results are far more visible than any previous anti-cellulite treatments.

Introducing CellulyzeTM, from Shu Cosmetic Surgery, a minimally invasive procedure that attacks the structure of celllulite. Most anti-cellulite treatments focus on cellulite superficially and may help to improve very mild cellulite, but CellulyzeTM can treat more advanced cellulite by releasing the fibrous bands beneath the skin and tightening skin surrounding cellulite. This can all be achieved in just one treatment.

CellulyzeTM is a 2-step procedure. First, superficial fatty tissue is removed from the problem areas and Vaser technology is used to tighten the skin. Vaser selectively breaks apart fatty tissue while preserving nerves and blood vessels. Then, hardened fibrous bands are cut to reduce skin dimpling and contour irregularities.

During the procedure you can expect:

  • We will mark the areas of cellulite to be treated with a marker
  • A couple of tiny incisions will be made in hidden areas
  • Local tumescent anesthesia solution is used to numb the area
  • Vaser probe is inserted through the incision sites
  • Fat tissue is leveled out and removed, skin tissue is tightened with Vaser energy
  • Fibrous bands are released with a special probe
  • Total treatment time depends on how much surface area needs to be done but it is approx 1 hour

Recovery from CellulyzeTM usually takes only 1-2 days. You'll have some bruising and discomfort afterwards. A small amount of anesthetic fluid may leak from the incision sites. A compression garment should be worn for a few weeks to help with swelling and healing process. You'll be able to go back to your normal activities after a day or two and resume more strenuous activity or exercise after 2 weeks. Your results will continue to improve for the next six months.

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is a skin condition caused by enlarged fat cells trapped in an inflexible network of collagen. The fat cells then become herniated which causes the dimpling effect.

The cause of Cellulite is multifactorial. Aging, hormones, genetics and dramatic weight changes can all play a role in the development of cellulite. These factors can cause connective tissue bands that pull skin down to create dimpling, and the fat cells they surround to become larger and push up into the skin, creating the "cottage cheese" effect.

What are the Treatment Options of Cellulite?

It depends on the severity of cellulite. SmoothShapes treatment is the best option for mild cellulite. Minimal invasive CellulyzeTM is the most effective way to treat the more advanced cellulite.

Is there any discomfort or pain with these treatments?

There should not be a discomfort with SmoothShape treatment. It is very comfortable and relaxing. Your technician will ask you about your comfort and adjust the vacuum pressure as needed.

The discomfort or pain related to CellulyzeTM is very similar to liposuction. You'll have mild discomfort or pain, bruising, swelling afterwards.

How many treatments does it take?

A SmoothShapes treatment consists of 8 sessions, twice a week for four weeks. CellulyzeTM needs a treatment only.

After the initial treatments, is there any maintenance that needs to be done?

Yes. Annual maintenance with SmoothShape is recommended to maintain your results.

Are the results proven with clinical studies?

Yes. 80% of clinical study on SmoothShape participants experience "a positive change in the smoothness of the treated areas." and 70% experienced "a positive change in the tightness of the skin in the treated areas." 81% experienced "significant volumetric reduction in subcutaneous fat."

We don't have the data of clinic studies on CellulyzeTM although it has been clinically proved to be very effective in treating more advanced cellulite.

Everyone offers cellulite treatment, how is CellulyzeTM different from the other cellulite treatments out there?

CellulyzeTM attacks the structure of celllulite. Most anti-cellulite treatments focus on cellulite superficially and may help to improve very mild cellulite by tightening skin, but CellulyzeTM can treat more advanced cellulite by releasing the fibrous bands beneath the skin and tightening skin surrounding cellulite. This can all be achieved in just one treatment.
